Blackberry Sucks? 4 Reasons BB10 Phones Doesn’t

Often at times, people have always lamented that blackberry sucks. I haven’t heard it being said just ones, twice or thrice.

Some couple of peeps around me have ditch blackberry as a smart phone and see android as a better option. Even a friend via his blog post, gave reasons while blackberry sucks.

I don’t support that notion. But wait, just before you go thinking whether or not i have used a blackberry phone before.

Yes, i have. I have used a bb curve, bold, torch and now, Q series which runs on bb10 OS.

Obviously, if all the blackberry phones you have used are running BB OS7 or below, then you have every right to say blackberry phone sucks. Oh yes, the frequent hanging on those phones are the basic reason to why people go by that notion and i do support it.

However, if you have used a blackberry phone running on OS10 like the Q5, Q10, Z10, Z30 or the newly released Z3, you would have a different point of view.

All points i am going to outlay here to support the notion saying blackberry do not suck is based on using a bb10 phone.

blackberry sucks? 4 reasons why i disagree

4 Reasons Why Blackberry Do Not Suck

As earlier stated, the points here are based on using a bb10 phone. If you haven’t used one, then you have every reason to oppose. If you have used one however, then you should see sense in what i am saying.

1. It Does Not Hang

Oh yes, i have been using a BB10 phone for months now and it does not hang.

Although at rare times, specially when running too many apps on the background, it could engage on a 1 second hang when going back to an app you left open in the background.

2. Battery Life Is Decent

Another reason why most people say blackberry sucks is because of the battery life.

It has become a common tradition for bb users to always walk around with their chargers. However, if using a bb10 phone, the battery life time lasts much more. Perhaps even more than most android phones.

The only downside with the battery is that, it is attached to the phone. Hence, it cannot be detached nor removed. This is becoming a norm for every smart phone in today’s world BTW.

3. Cost Of Subscription

Oh well, this is the basic reason why i actually went for a bb10 phone. It’s common saying that the cost of subscription on blackberry phones are the cheapest.

With N1000 on glo network using the bis plan, you are given 3GB of data with you can tether and make it browse on your android, computer, iPad or iPhone device.

4. Easily Install Android Apps

Believe it or not, with the bb10 phone, android apps can easily be installed. I have done this a couple of times and it has always worked for me.

The only downside is that, apps cannot be downloaded from google play-store. Android apps needed to be downloaded from other sources. With the use of search engines, i don’t think that should be much stress.

Having said all those, I believe you should come to terms with me and believe that Blackberry do not suck.

As earlier said. Blackberry phones running on OS7 or below can sure be termed as buggy but for bb10 phones, it’s a very nice smartphone to go for.

  • I have q10 and I love it. But thats sucksssss…
Cuz i’m always haaving truble for installing viber on it. BlackBerry world doesn’t work. The apps are boringggggggg… and useless.. i’m gonna go buy iphone 5s or htc one. Bye

    • Blackberry world does not work? What errors are you having because mine works very fine. More so, are you aware of the fact that you can install some android apps on the blackberry 10 device?

  • Let’s be fair now. . .

    1. Any OS can hang or become non-responsive. I can link to crackberry forums of BB10 users asking what to do, resetting their devices, etc. . .

    2. Battery life is OK. . . Good? If the Passport with its 3400MAh battery only lasts “two days of average use” and is only pushing 1960000 pixels (1080p = 2073600 pixels) I wouldn’t call that good by any stretch. I can easily get that on my LG with a 5.5″ 1080p S600 SoC and 3140MAh battery. . . it came out April 2013.

    4. *SOME Android apps work* You cannot install any and all Android apps, only a small portion will work properly, a slightly larger portion will work with less functionality. However, the BB Android Runtime is buggy and often causes RAM usage running away, freezes, and there is NO way to control app permissions, truly kill apps, clear BBAR caches, etc. . . It simply is NOT a good implementation!

    Why Blackberry doesn’t “get it:”

    1. No vision. Just look at the random decisions that have been made over the past few years. No one is driving this broken ship. The current CEO has a “new vision,” which is? Go back to the past?!?!?! Seriously? Isn’t that what got them in trouble?

    2. Lackluster hardware at high prices. The current CEO said the Passport should be $700. Compared to what? An iPhone? The most over priced device in the world? Sorry, NO way in the Android world is the Passport going to pull $700, or $600, not even $500. . . unless they want to sell only a few. Ad to that the companies current situation and the passport should be $400 max, and the Classic about $250. They sure aren’t going to add new users with old hardware, old styling, and a borked ecosystem. Most of us have adapted to an all-touch device just fine. . . but BB still refuses to add gesture typing for all touch device, even apple finally got with the program and let users change the keyboard.

    3. Features sets are not thoroughly thought out. Just look at the development of BB10, how often do they go back to re-work a feature set? That demonstrates NO one at Blackberry has the vision of where this OS should be. Feature sets for many things should be clear going forward and fully done the first time. This is NOT a new OS, QNX has been around a long long time, and Blackberry had lots to look at due to Android & iOS being so far ahead that they really have NO excuse to be able to formulate feature sets from the beginning. Going back and adding a couple new features every so often to a feature set takes a ton more time, introduces more problems each and every time. . .

    Example: HDMI out.
First we got “presentation mode.” Now we have PlayOn. However that only works for certain content, and with apps the have HDMI set properly. Other than that? We have WiFi & SlimPort mirroring, and ONLY mirroring. . . WTF? 1:1 mirroring????? They are kidding!!! There should have been your standard HDMI out options available from the very start—”extended,” “mirroring/duplicate,” and “hdmi out only” (i.e. projector only). This would allow the user to use a BB device as a computer. . . Just think about how useful that would be, especially in developing markets, and how easy convergence would become especially if they ported a few open-source productivity apps, but instead they have been dinking around with HDMI/WiFi BS for four years now with NO clear direction.

This same story is true for most every app/feature set. It seems the Only thing Blackberry can do right is the HUB.

So, while they may not “suck” they certainly don’t “get it” and they clearly have no clear vision of where things should be going. Instead they seem to be a dog chasing its tail, and which direction that will be depends on the current CEO. . . . .

Seriously, why every BB fan isn’t screaming at Blackberry daily boggles my mind.

Just continue to ignore the reality of competition, cause that worked so well before. . . . unbelievable.

  • Samuel gudmorning, please I don’t know why my media card and in built memory of my blackberry misbehaves nowadays I use a bb torch2……. Most times am unable to access my pictures, music and most especially my whatsapp chat with just disappear… What shud I do?

    • Hello Samuel, Please perform a factory reset and let’s see if that fixes the issue. You can take out the SD Card before doing the reset.

  • Hello Samuel, So I want to buy a Q10 and I just wanna be sure of something, does the 1000 monthly Glo bis work on it? And is it fast or not?

  • Really?????? Do you mean bb10 devices can run android apps ? Like HD games? Camera 360?? .if yes, its cool because that’s the reason why i never loved all these Bb10 devices. i wanna buy tecno but its not classy, its rampant

    • Hello Basil, Whether or not the bb10 phone can run android apps like HD games and Camera 360 is something i really cannot ascertain at this point. However, the phone works with all basic android apps i have tried. You can find some of the apps which i have talked about Here.

  • I use curve 7 which runs os7 and I don’t experience all those problems.
I guess those complaining are the ones who use the low versions with low RAM and slow processor.
In fact, I have abandoned my android for a long time now
