How To Send And Receive Money Via Gmail With Google Wallet Service

Apparently, technology seems to be getting better by the day as new innovations tends to surface.

Few days back, we announced that you can now send and receive PayPal funds directly from the BBM app.

While that service is still yet to be available in Nigeria, Nigerians can now send and receive money using Gmail courtesy of the Google wallet service.

Although the Feature has been announced since early this year, I actually haven’t seen it in place until recently.

Please note that in-other to use this feature, you will need to have a Google Wallet account and input a valid credit card details as the service basically links your gmail account with that of your Google wallat account in other to send, receive and request for money.

Sending, Receiving, and Requesting Money Using Gmail

To Send or request money

1. Open Gmail.
2. Click the Compose button.
3. Enter the email address of the person you want to send money to.
4. Add a subject and message text (optional).
5. Click the $ icon. For UK users, click the £ icon.
   
6. If you don’t have Google Wallet yet, you’ll be asked to set up your account.
7. To send money: Enter the amount you want to send and choose a funding source.
8. To request money: Click Request at the top of the box, and enter the amount you’d like to request.
9. Click Attach.
10. Look over your message one more time and click Send.

For US users, It’s free to send money using your Google Wallet Balance, debit card, or your bank account linked to Google Wallet. While for UK users, It’s free to send money using your Google Wallet Balance or debit card.

To Receive money

The first time you receive a message with money attached, follow these directions:

1. Open Gmail.
2. Open the message with the attached money.
3. Click Claim money.
4. You’ll be prompted to sign up for Google Wallet and verify your identity.
5. Once you’ve completed identity verification, navigate back to the message and click Claim money again.

After claiming money for the first time, funds will be automatically added to your Google Wallet Balance.

Receiving money is always free, and you can claim funds on desktop and mobile.

To Disable the “send money” option

1. Open Gmail.
2. Click the Compose button.
3. Next, Click the $ icon (£ for UK users).
4. Click the gear icon.
5. Disable the feature.

The currency icon will continue to show, but the feature will be disabled. To enable the feature again, follow the same steps.
